Who had Monday, November 4 on their Celtic outgoing transfer bingo card?
Indeed, Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg was the perpetrator, as he delivered an abrupt but admittedly unsurprising update concerning the future of Celtic right-winger Nicolas Kuhn. He told his 390k followers on X: “Several Premier League clubs have already inquired about Nicolas Kuhn, thanks to his strong performances at Celtic.”
“So far this season, he has scored 7 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions. Up next is the crucial Champions League match against RB Leipzig.
“He is under contract until 2029, with a price valuation over €10m. The 24y/o right-winger is definitely one to watch for the summer transfer window.”

Signing a five-and-a-half-year deal back in January for around £3 million, the former Ajax, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich youth prospect has been in scintillating form for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season after a difficult start to life in Scotland following his winter arrival. At the time of writing, the Hannover-born wide-man has contributed 17 goal contributions so far this campaign, with seven goals and a further 10 assists in all competitions.
Following Matt O’Riley’s £25 million move to Brighton in the summer, you could argue that the club’s biggest on-field asset presently is that of Kuhn, due to both his numbers and the impact that he delivers game-in game-out for Celtic. Because of this, Plettenberg’s low valuation of “over €10m” is precisely that – low.
The days of Celtic being a bargain bin to the riches of English football are thankfully over -and have been for a number of years. The O’Riley fee has only further underlined this fact, with the club gaining a sizable profit on a player they signed for just £1.5 million under three years ago. As a matter of fact, Kuhn will likely surpass that aforementioned fee when all is said and done.
€10 million for Kuhn would be a derisory offer – it would be laughed at, never mind rejected by the Celtic board and hierarchy. Turning 25 on New Year's Day, Kuhn is entering his prime years as a winger, after putting his game together firstly in the Austrian Bundesliga at Rapid Vienna, before lighting up Scottish football this season. You could even say that those unnamed English Premier League sides may have to QUADRUPLE that fee to gain ownership of the right-winger’s services.
With over four and a half years left on his current contract, Celtic are in an enviable position concerning safeguarding their prized asset. Though Kuhn is contracted until the summer of 2029, perhaps renewed terms will be in the offing for the winger, as his placing and role in Rodgers’ squad has grown concerning importance. The very real possibility of breaking into Julian Nagelsmann’s new-look Germany squad in the future should alert the club to improve and increase personal terms with Celtic’s star man with regard to an extension.
For now, Kuhn must remain focused on what has got him to this sort of standing in European football – on-field matters. Coming up against his former team in RB Leipzig at Celtic Park tonight, the German youth international could make a name for himself on the biggest club stage of them all – that of the Champions League.
With the way he has been playing and conducting himself so far this season, you would not put it past ‘Killer Kuhn’ to supply that deadly intervention against his former employers this evening…
