Detailed Player Ratings from Celtic's 1-1 draw with Club Brugge in the Champions League at Celtic Park...

Kasper Schmeichel - Apart from his distribution - which was good - the only thing Schmeichel did of note in the first 45 minutes was pick the ball out of his net from Carter-Vickers’ misplaced back-pass. He would make a stunning safe in the second half to keep the score 1-0, which allowed Celtic to eventually get back in the game thanks to Brugge’s single-goal advantage. A leader of men, Schmeichel’s authority and presence essentially earned his side a point on the night. 8

Alistair Johnston - not effective in the opening half, Johnston was pegged back by Brugge, with the majority of his work coming on the defensive end of proceedings. He would perform better after the restart, as he was given more space and time to run to the byline - a facet that was sorely lacking in the first 45. Was unlucky not to supply an attacker with a couple of good crosses into the box late on. Better days ahead for the Canadian. 6

Cameron Carter-Vickers - His worst moment in a Celtic jersey, the American defender lost his bearings, passing the ball into the back of his own net following a pass into the box by Nicolas Kuhn. He looked shaky in possession after - perhaps still thinking of the error -, a rare sight from CCV’s perspective. He stabilised as the game went on - a measure of the man and the player - as Trusty and his fellow teammates encouraged him to continue being positive. A gutsy second-half showing from a player who does not hide - even after dropping a clanger. Character. 6

Auston Trusty - Celtic’s best performer in the first half, the USA international won the majority of his battles, looking a lot more composed at the than Carter-Vickers in the process. Strong in the tackle and good on the ball, Trusty kept the defence calm after going 1-0 down. Apart from a break where he let his marker get goal-side, the American was flawless, showing authority on the ball and in the tackle. £6 million is looking like a steal for Trusty - Celtic have won a watch with the centre-back this season. An immense showing from the former Arsenal man. 9

Greg Taylor - Like his fellow full-back in Johnston, Taylor had a lacklustre opening half, as he was forced to defend for large parts of the first 45 minutes. Replaced by Alex Valle - who was a standout in his cameo role vs Club Brugge. Nothing drastic either way from Taylor - it just feels like the end of his Celtic career is playing out at this point. 5

Callum McGregor - Uncharacteristically careless on the ball, McGregor got lost in the pack, though he was not the only midfielder who struggled to get going for Rodgers’ side. A really surprising performance from the captain, who has been iffy the past couple of games for his side. Did improve in the second half, though his performance was far from perfect against Brugge’s strong engine room. He will bounce back. 5

Arne Engels - A frustrating watch again, the Belgian was careless and ineffective on the ball for the duration of the first half - a big disappointment against his former employers on the night. His second half did not get any better, and he was hooked for Paulo Bernardo on the hour mark. It is difficult to continually criticise the player, but Engels is badly off-form presently - he may need to be taken out of the firing line for his own good. 4

Reo Hatate - He lasted the full 90, though his influence on the game was very small, in all honesty. Careless in possession, the Japan midfielder did not reach the heights that he managed vs RB Leipzig, though some credit must be attributed to his rising stamina in games. Came close in the second half with a shot from outside the box. Not his best night - he wasn’t the only one. 5

Nicolas Kuhn - A quieter game than last time out in the Champions League, Kuhn was tightly marked by two defenders whenever he was on the ball, though he did have a couple of bright moments in both halves. It was his pass that led to CCV’s own goal, though he was largely absolved of any blame. Looked bright when on the run, but could not get a consistent rhythm going in this one. Brugge defended him well. 5

Kyogo Furuhashi - Apart from one chance that was a difficult one in the air, Kyogo’s main contribution to this game was by dropping deep and trying to connect the play from midfield. A quiet game even by his standards, he fed off of scraps for the duration and was replaced by Adam Idah near the end. 5

Daizen Maeda - The hero on the night for Celtic, Maeda’s performance leading up to his decisive goal was mixed, with good defending often overshadowed by carelessness in possession. It would be his goal that gained his side a point on the night, as he cut inside with a spin before unleashing a monstrous shot that hit the far post and into the back of Simon Mignolet’s net. An unbelievable finish from the winger. He worked hard throughout. 7

Subs:

Paulo Bernardo - How is this man not starting games for Celtic? Much like Saturday, Bernardo came onto the pitch and instantly made a positive impact - outshining Engels’ contributions very quickly in proceedings. Another standout cameo from the midfielder - expect his efforts to be rewarded with a start on Saturday vs Ross County - you would think. 6

Alex Valle - Like Bernardo, Valle outshone the player he replaced very quickly, as it was his run that led to the equaliser through Maeda. A more athletic full-back than Taylor, it was his movement and drive that brought Celtic back into the game. Needs more game-time soon. 6

James Forrest - Came on with 15 minutes to go, but did not have that much of an impact on proceedings. 3

Adam Idah - Put himself about for the final 15 minutes or so - his touch looked better on the night, too. Definitely something to work with concerning the Irishman. 4

Yang Hyun-jun - Got the final few minutes of the contest. 2
