Celtic were denied a certain penalty against Kilmarnock yesterday, insists former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson.

Seak Haksabanovic went down in the final moments of the Viaplay Cup last 16 tie at Rugby Park under the attention of Lewis Mayo.

The Killie defender went to ground as he tackled the Hoops winger close to the by-line.

No penalty was awarded and VAR officials didn't deem it necessary to ask for a pitch-side review for Alan Muir either.

But Ferguson has revealed that as a player he would've been furious if his team hadn't been awarded a spot kick for the incident.

He told Go Radio: "It's a penalty. If I'm playing, I would be absolutely raging. End of, it's a penalty.

"He's clipped him and he's went down. I fully expected when I was watching the game, I was like 'right, that's it going into extra-time."

Another flashpoint that was addressed on the radio program was Danny Armstrong's challenge on Greg Taylor.

On the halfway line, just a couple of minutes before Marley Watkins' winning goal, the Celtic left-back was caught by Armstrong's elbow.

Again, no further action was required by the officials, as VAR checked and didn't intervene.

Ferguson added: "I'll be honest if you actually watch it and slow it down, it's nasty. He catches him with the elbow.

"So if they look back on that, that could have been certainly a yellow card but possibly a red."
