Celtic lost their third game on the bounce in the UEFA Youth League as Atletico Madrid ran out 2-0 winners at lesser Hampden.

The hosts pressed the ball well in the opening stages, with forward Rocco Vata looking particularly impressive.

However, the Spanish side started to grow into the fixture and opened the scoring just before half time when defender David Munoz headed home from a corner.

Celtic had a strong spell of possession before the break but were unable to make it count as Atletico Madrid went in one goal up.

Corey Thomson went close for Stephen McManus and Darren O'Dea's team early into the second 45 minutes when he flashed a header wide.

Substitute Daniel Cummings then had what was probably Celtic's best chance of the match when he attempted a dink with less than 30 minutes to go but could not keep his shot down.

The visitors struck the crossbar on 67 minutes as they once again took control of the fixture.

Vata was almost in behind in the last 10 minutes after a long ball, but the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper came out quickly to avert the danger.

The game ended as a contest in the dying stages when Rayane Belid scored from a rebound to give Fernando Torres' side a comfortable 2-0 win.
