Brendan Rodgers insists he is "hopeful" that Celtic can bring in more players before the end of the transfer window.

The Scottish champions' only signing so far has been winger Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna.

And the 50-year-old is keen to bring in more quality before the end of January.

He said: "Not at this moment but there's work going on behind the scenes. Of course there is, but it's not easy when you're trying to get players in.

"I've talked about quality before and always will because that's the nature of what I want to build here.

"We've got a lot of quality players in our squad that are improving and developing and I want to add to that.

"When you're trying to get quality and add, it's never easy because other clubs don't want to lose quality players.

"But it's something that's continually being worked on and we're hopeful before the window shuts we'll be able to do that."

Rodgers also opened up on speculation surrounding Matt O'Riley, claiming the midfielder will not be sold this month.

Celtic rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid to sign the player on loan with an obligation to buy.

The 23-year-old former MK Dons player has produced 10 goals and 12 assists this season and recently signed a contract extension that ties him to the Scottish Premiership champions until 2027.

"Matt is a player we don’t want to lose and he won’t be going anywhere in January," he continued.

“It’s a great testament to him and what the club can do for a player. He won his first international cap this season and Atletico Madrid are a big club in European football.

“But he is very much part of what we are doing. He has been a joy to work with and I had a good chat with Matt this morning (Thursday) and he is someone who will be here for us in the second part of the season.”
