Both Brendan Rodgers and Callum McGregor were absent from Celtic training this morning.

The champions are preparing for their weekend match against Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Hoops will make the journey across the M8 to Edinburgh on Sunday lunchtime.

Sky Sports reporter Mark Benstead revealed earlier this morning that neither the manager nor captain was present at today's training session, with John Kennedy instead overseeing the first team at Lennoxtown.

However, it is expected that Rodgers will face the media at lunchtime today to preview the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Benstead stated: "Interesting little side note to training. It's not Brendan Rodgers overseeing this morning's session. John Kennedy is the man calling the shots so far.

"The Celtic manager is yet to make an appearance. We are due to speak to him at lunchtime, I imagine he will be on route.

"But, for the moment, John Kennedy is the man looking after this morning's session."

Celtic go into the game fresh from their 7-1 hammering of Dundee on Wednesday night. 

McGregor was subbed at half time in favour of youngster Daniel Kelly. It's believed this was to allow the usually ever-present midfielder a rare rest, with the scoreline sitting at a whopping 6-0 at the time.

Meanwhile, the decision to recognise Ange Postecoglou as Manager of the Year at the London Football Awards has come under scrutiny - from his own peers.

Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has aimed a dig at the awards ceremony after he was pipped to the accolade by the Australian.

Postecoglou has only been at Tottenham since last summer when he arrived from Celtic fresh from winning the treble in his final season.

He has of course enjoyed a decent start to life in North London, with his brand of football attracting plenty of plaudits from supporters and pundits.
