Celtic's injury concerns over Cameron Carter-Vickers have been eased by Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops boss has confirmed that the powerful defender has avoided another serious setback in what has been a stop-start season for him.

The USA international was absent from Celtic's 4-2 Scottish Cup quarter-final win over Livingston on Sunday. This sparked fears that he has tweaked a previous injury. 

But Rodgers has revealed that a scan has provided good news, with the centre-back expected to return for the challenge of St Johnstone this weekend.

"We will have a look at Cameron Carter Vickers, he should be fine, it was precaution," the 52-year-old said.  "I spoke to Cam at length this morning, he just feels everything is based from around his knee operation.

"Also, when you have picked up a few injuries from that, you get that sensation and think it's linked to another injury. Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be that.

"We've had the scan which has come through fine, he's done some work with the medical team and hopefully he will rejoin the training squad on Thursday and Friday. Luis Palma was always going to be after the international break."

Rodgers spoke to Celtic TV about numerous topics, as he opened up on a difficult season to date and reflected on his side's more recent win ahead of the run-in over the coming months.

He added: "You have to feel good because it's an opportunity to win two out of three domestic trophies. Against Livingston, I was really pleased to get through.

"Our attacking performance was good, not so good defensively, as a team for me, however, we got the job done and we arrive into another semi-final which we cannot wait for that date to come."
