Paulo Bernardo could have the option to move to Mexico this summer.

The midfielder has spent the season on loan at Celtic from parent club Benfica.

The deal between the clubs does include a clause that means a £6m bid would be enough to secure the permanent transfer of the Portuguese Under-21 international.

But while Celtic does hold an option to buy the attacking midfielder, one of his former coaches has revealed he would be keen to tempt Bernardo to Mexico.

Ex-Benfica academy coach and B team boss Renato Paiva has spoken to A Bola about reuniting with any of his former players. 

The Toluca boss has named Bernardo as one of those he'd consider.

He responded: "I had my eyes on Paulo Bernardo.. But at the time it wasn't possible. He didn't want to leave for South America. I kept my eyes on him and if Benfica intended to release him.

"I sit on the sofa and see him playing at the highest level, being able to say that I contributed a little something to that makes me very satisfied. I would like to reunite if there was an opportunity."

Meanwhile, Chris Sutton reckons Brendan Rodgers' handling of Daizen Maeda's injury comeback could be a double bluff.

The Celtic hero has raised his suspicions over whether the Japanese forward, 26, really is ready for a return to first-team action just weeks after it was expected he'd be ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The pundit has pointed to the importance of winning the physiological battle, as well as the fight on the pitch during the title run-in with Rangers.

And it's for that reason, with Maeda's presence providing the potential to cause James Tavernier some sleepless nights, that Sutton reckons it could all be hearsay from the Hoops gaffer.
