Celtic are reportedly monitoring Kieran Tierney's situation at Arsenal with a view to an emotional Parkhead return.

The left-back, 27, has been out injured after sustaining a hamstring injury while on international duty with Scotland at Euro 2024.

Last season, Tierney was shipped out on loan to Real Sociedad by Arsenal with Mikel Arteta preferring Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back.

The Scotland internationalist's last appearance for Arsenal came way back in June 2023 when he played 14 minutes in the Community Shield final against Manchester City. Since then, Tierney has been out of the picture at the Emirates.

Now, talkSPORT claim Arsenal have told the defender he is free to leave the club speaking speculation over a return to Celtic.

The outlet claims Celtic are monitoring Tierney's position at Arsenal with a switch to Glasgow not ruled out.

Tierney came through the youth system at Celtic and made his debut in April 2015 before becoming a key player for the side.

The left-back would then leave the club for a record fee in the region of £25m in August 2019.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been vocal of his admiration for the defender from the time they worked together at Celtic.

Quizzed on links last summer, Rodgers said: "Listen, I would never speak about Kieran other than the time that I had him here. He’s an Arsenal player and that’s where he’s at.

"I think for himself Kieran will want to play. he’s not a young player anymore. He’s a player who will want to play football, especially where he was with Arsenal for his first couple of years, and at times captaining the club.

"Obviously, they’ve got a really strong squad, Mikel’s (Arteta) done a fantastic job there, but for Kieran himself, I’m sure he’ll be looking to go out and play. That’s the way I would see it."
